Features Delayed for Later Versions

Apple has decided to delay some features for subsequent versions like iOS 17.1 or 17.2. One such feature is the Journal app. This app is designed to provide users with a platform to record their daily experiences, not just with text but photos, music, and audio recordings. It will even suggest content based on the user’s recent activities.

Another feature separate from the initial release is the Collaborative Playlists for Apple Music. This feature will allow multiple users to add, reorder, and delete songs in a shared playlist, making the music experience more interactive.

Additionally, an enhancement for the AirDrop service is in the pipeline. After a future update in 2023, AirDrop will allow content transfers over the internet, even if the devices are not nearby, as long as both are logged into an iCloud account.

Devices Compatible with iOS 17

iOS 17 will be available for iPhone SE (2nd gen or later) and iPhone XR and above. This means older models like iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus won’t be eligible for this update.

Top New Features

  1. StandBy Mode: This new full-screen view displays information on a charging iPhone, such as the clock, calendar, photos, weather, music controls, and widgets.
  2. Contact Posters: Users can customize what their contacts see when they call. Features like live voicemail and silencing unknown callers will also be introduced.
  3. NameDrop: This feature allows users to share contact information by bringing two iPhones close together.
  4. New Widgets: Users can add interactive widgets to their lock and home screens.
  5. FaceTime Updates: iOS 17 will enhance FaceTime with audio/video messages, 3D video effects, and the ability to start calls on Apple TV.

Preparing for the Update

Before downloading iOS 17, users are advised to:

  • Backup their iPhone: This ensures no data is lost during the update.
  • Free up Storage: The update might require a few gigabytes, so it’s recommended to have at least 8GB free.
  • Update to the Latest iOS 16 Version: This ensures a smooth transition to iOS 17.
  • Connect to Wi-Fi and Charge the Battery: A stable Wi-Fi connection and at least 60% battery are required for the update.

Once ready, users can go to Settings > General > Software Update to start the download.

Apple’s iOS 17 is a big update that comes with a lot of new features and changes. Even though some features aren’t ready yet, the ones in the first release should improve the user experience.
